After leaving 1770, we made our way to Mooloolaba, with a side trip to Bundaberg to check out the rum factory and the ginger beer factory.
|
It stunk like corn at the rum factory. |
|
Yummy, a very vintage looking factory. |
You can pay to do a tour but seeing as neither of us drink bundy we decided just to have a sticky beak around and then head somewhere we appreciate a lot more, the ginger beer factory!
We paid about $15 each to do a tour here and that included a taste test of the Bundaberg soft drink range, well worth it!
|
Taste test time! |
We walked out with a few bottles for our travels!
We were planning on staying in Noosa but the caravan parks there were booked out, it's also a very small place to be driving the caravan round and round so we took off and headed to Mooloolaba and got a great spot at the Mooloolaba beach resort, $38 per night and we were right across from the beach and only a 2 minute walk to the main strip.
We did about 410kms with our side trip so were looking forward to kicking back here for a few days!

Our shady little spot |
Loving this weather, our second day at Mooloolaba was perfect for a visit to Australia Zoo.
Be prepared to part with a bit of money if visiting here, it was $120 for the both of us to get in and its best you take your own lunch because the prices here are not family friendly.

The new Irwin
After a day with the animals we had a beer at the Ettamogah pub.
|
Then we walked across the road from our caravan park and had a stroll and an ice cream at the marina.
We loved having a few relaxing days in Mooloolaba, next stop, more relaxing, the Gold Coast.
Only a 2 hour drive.
Pulled in at the Main Beach Caravan park, $160 for 4 nights but is on the main strip and across the road from the beach, not too bad!
Now we were settled in again it was time to hit the theme parks, Movie World was first, we got a 3 parks super pass for $99 each.
First ride was the log ride and we got a tad wet!
We had a great time running around on all the rides, the scariest ride in the park has to be the superman ride, no Brenton did not close his eyes because it was so scary.........
It went so quick I could not even scream, fantastic!
We enjoyed a nice dinner after WB at the Cavill Ave surf club, nice and cheap!
Our next theme park was Sea World.
|
Loved watching the polar bear. |
|
The seal show was great! |
|
View from the monorail. |
We though the weather was about to change but luck was still on our side and the rain held off and it turned out to be another warm day.
We managed to get a football game in at the new Gold Coast ground, Gold Coast Vs The Bulldogs, perfect timing!
|
Brenton out there having a kick. |
Whilst the footy was great to get parking was a pain, I recommend the bus, also buy tickets before hand, they are still getting used to all things AFL up here so they are slow!
After the footy we went for a wander down Cavill ave, had some dinner and then went to the wax museum.
|
Ghandi was the best. |
|
Dolly was just scary! |
There is always so much to see and do on the Gold Coast, but time for the next stop, Byron Bay.
