Darwin Part 1

We arrived into Darwin on a Sunday, a very sweaty, sticky Sunday!

We wanted to stay as close as possible to town so we pulled in at a little motel/caravan park that is on the Stuart Hwy called 'The Leprechaun Inn',it's only a 10 minute drive into the main hub of Darwin, not the most modern of places, but it did survive cyclone Tracy so at least we knew it was sturdy, we also found out very quickly that it was under a flight path, so every couple of hours we would hold our breath and hope that the plane almost scraping the top of the building next to us was going to make it!

Flight path and all, it is the closest park to the centre of town, unfortunately it's closing down in November so the next closest park is The Shady Tree, they all cost around $30 per night, we had a huge site so we were happy with that price.

It didn't take us long to get organised so we headed down to Mindel beach to check out the famous Mindel beach markets, which are on Sunday's and Thursday's in the peak seasons, such a great atmosphere and plenty to see and do:

The famous salt & pepper barramundi, yummy, yummy!

Markets & a beach sunset, great combination.

The moon was out early when we captured this weird cloud.
Our travelling friends Stu & Megs were off doing a hike this week so we had to sight see all by ourselves!

We headed to Fannie bay on a very warm day, the beach looked so good it was almost teasing us, you can't swim in it at this time of year because of the jelly fish and the odd croc!

Plenty of crabs around ready to nip our toes!!

And when we arrived we found this little fella making him self at home on our chair!
When Stu & Megs did arrive the boys did a spot of fishing at Lee Point:

A mud crab that one of the boys new friends caught, yuck!

The first fish the boys caught........or at least they told us they caught it but fessed up later and said it got caught in the crab net!

Megan cooking up a storm, no fish were harmed in the making of this meal.
We celebrated first Grand Final at the Top deck bar in Mitchell street, it was packed full, mostly of St.Kilda supporters, one of the loudest being Megan!

Megs & Stu had a few friends up for a visit so we were a party of 11.
Everything was a bit flat after the draw so we went out and had a few drinks and some dinner at Cafe Uno, not the greatest meal we have ever had and they make a horrible pina colada!!

We also were lucky enough to see Powderfinger, the farewell tour with Jet as the support act, an awesome outside venue the only down fall was you had to line up for an hour to get a drink, even just a water, it didn't help that it was about 36 degrees and extremely sticky!

But the concert was amazing!!

Jet get the crowd going.

Bernard Fanning.

Happy shiny people!

We headed out for a boogie afterwards at a pub called Kitty O'Sheas, an extremely feral pub that I don't recommend unless completely intoxicated!

Stu and Megs trying to get Brenton to boogie!

We spent second Grand Final in Darwin, at the same bar but there were less people, I was glad to see Collingwood win but Megan was very disappointed with the saints so we joined her for a pub crawl to make her feel better!

Great bar called 'The Tap' on Mitchell street.

Another amazing sunset!

Brenton getting ready to cook us a curry in the stifling heat!

Kicking back in our Hammock.
To be continued.....
