Darwin Part 2

Part 2 and we are still sight seeing, so much to do and see in Darwin!

We went to the Darwin wildlife park to check out some of the locals, it's about a 45 min drive from the centre of town but well worth the visit, it's huge!

You can walk or do as us lazy folk do and tram it!

We stood and watched this croc for ages thinking it was fake but it moved eventually and we were happy to know we weren't being ripped off!

At the birds of prey show.

Just chatting with croc dundee in his akubra!

A fruit bat doing his thing!

So cute to look at but we want to remain rabies free so we didn't touch!

The bird enclosures are huge!

Have you ever seen such a pretty kookaburra!!

A very odd turkey like bird.

We think he was super glued on.

Trekking through the 'dry' part of the Park

We were lucky enough to see these guys being fed.

This bird reminds me of an ice-cream! Yummy!
We had a great day at the wildlife park although it did rain in the afternoon bringing relief for 5 minutes and then it got worse after the rain, the sweat pouring out of us is incredible, just making the bed is a huge job.
Hot showers don't exist anymore, we haven't had a hot shower since Mataranka, but we do have about 3 a day to wash the sweat away (no water restrictions up here!).

We went to Mindil Markets again with Stu and Meg:

Eating more salt and pepper barramundi, obsessed!

Love a sunset!

Stu cracking us up with his Italian accent.

Megan and I got into a bit of a fitness routine whilst in Darwin, but we had to get up at about 6:30am so we didn't die, even at that time it was still hot!

We decided to break it up a bit and went on a bike ride to see the sights and get fit at the same time:

If I was taking this shot I would have fallen off by now!

So what did I say about fitness......

Half way through we decided to indulge, hot or cold we couldn't decide......so it was both!

We rode around Night cliff and Fannie bay and then into town.

We stopped at the museum for a look, it's just across from the ski club and free entry, by this stage we had already done 17 kilometres and were hanging for an air-conditioner, and the museum did not disappoint, it was ice cold!

This was put in for the kids but we found it very amusing:

It was croc skin, nothing too scary.

Behind the rectangle box......a fish!

A'hoy sailors!

The museum is a must if you visit Darwin, it has a bit of everything, Aboriginal art, sculptures, stuffed animals, jewels, a croc area and heaps of information on cyclone Tracy, all free!!

After the museum we rode another 9 kilometres to get home and spent the afternoon in the pool before it rained again, apparently wet season is coming early, hopefully it clears up for my parents visit!

Our pool at the caravan park.

Brenton and I also visited the war museum whilst we were in Darwin, it's a $12 entry fee but is worth it for all the insight it gives you, we didn't realise how bad Darwin was affected during WW2.

An old searchlight.

Megan and I went on another adventure/bike ride to the Parap markets on a Saturday morning, not as big as Mindil but such a great vibe, we had some breakfast at the cyclone cafe, really great service and good food!
