Denham/Monkey Mia

26th Of Feb:

Currently sitting here by the caravan looking out into the clear waters of Denham, we have been here since the 24th and have decided to stay and extra night.

Denham is a little town about 26kms from Monkey Mia, it's right on the water and although it's only a small town it still has a few small supermarkets and even a butchers!

View from Eagle Bluff, we didn't get any rain but saw some over the water.

The first day we got here the flies were so bad, the worst we have had so far, they were so bad we were going to leave, they were driving us crazy!

Brentons back.

Instead we got some sexy head nets and made do.

We visited eagle bluff, it overlooks the clearest water, it was pretty overcast on the first day so we didn't see many animals swimming about, apparently you can spot sting rays and even sharks on a clear day.

Our front yard.

Our beach front caravan park.

A huge bird that was annoying us.
We also did a spot of fishing, we caught heaps for a change, I caught my first fish ever!!
A huge first day.

Amazing sunset at the jetty.

Some strange looking fish Brenton caught.

Great sunset from the town jetty.

The little nibblers!

My first fish!
We visited Monkey Mia the second day, the flies are still friendly but nothing like the day we got here.

It costs $8 a car to get in to Monkey Mia and there are 3 feedings in the morning only, 7-12, we got there around 9 am and they were in the middle of a feeding, there was a mother and her calf.

There were about 20 people all standing around and only 2 get to feed the dolphins, not extremely thrilling, so we went for a look around and spotted a turtle swimming around the jetty.

Sticking his head up to say hi.

The view from the water.

The second feed there were a few more Dolphins.

On our way back from Monkey Mia we spotted some traffic controllers on the road:

Just having a seat in the middle of the road!

Emu's are so dopey!! They didn't seem to bothered by us and slowly walked off the road.

Our next stop was Little lagoon on the way back, it's extremely shallow, even in the centre, it was okay for a quick dip and a snorkel.

The sky was now nice and clear so we headed back to eagle bluff to see if we could spot any thing.

We did spot some sting rays but no sharks, and the flies were no where to be seen!

We did call in to the Aquarium as well to find out about the local marine life, it was in a fantastic spot, and we had our own private tour guide show us around.

Meeting the eels.

The stone fish, the venomous fish in the world, and they live here! eek!
We went to the shark lagoon and got to see them being fed:

There were reef sharks and a bull shark and some other sharks we can't remember!

This little guy was injured, and he was snappy! Trying to bite brents finger.

We both loved this guy, he kept squirting water at us.

The view driving into Denham.

A lovely old restaurant town.

Our caravan park.
Our last stop before we left Denham was Shell beach, pretty self explanatory:

So many shells!

The water was the perfect temperature.

We loved Denham, such a great place with lots to do, Monkey Mia was a bit of a let down though, but at least we can say we have been there now!
