Coral Bay

20th Of Feb:

We left Exmouth today and arrived in Coral bay at about lunch time, we are so happy because the sun has re-appeared!
There are only two caravan parks here and we ended up at the Bay View caravan park, both look really nice though, they have so much to do here, tennis, volley ball, basketball, a pool, and of course it's only across the road from the beach!

It's such a cute little town, it even has a bakery! The supermarket is super small and super pricey, especially for anything fresh, so it's best to stock up before coming.

We spent the afternoon swimming, the water was still a little murky due to the cyclonic weather that has been following us around but it was a lot better than Turquoise bay.

We also visited the jetty which is home to a Queensland groper called 'Merv", we were lucky enough to see him, he apparently weighs about 450kgs!! This is his shadow below! He even had a little lion fish following him around everywhere and would not leave his side.

Brenton jumping in to meet Merv.

Merv didn't really want to see him!

It's amazing how much marine life we have seen in such a short space of time, everywhere you look is a different animal!

After that we headed to the bottleshop, grabbed a few beers and enjoyed some pasta!

21st Feb:

Today the weather is perfect, sun out and not windy! We met this guy roaming around our caravan park.

We then went to see what type of tours they offered around Coral Bay, it is low season at the moment so there was not a lot on.

We did do a quad bike tour to go and see the turtles feeding, it went for 2 hrs over the dunes and on a  few beaches to get to the turtle feeding area.

We got to stop for a few swims along the way in the most amazing spots!! The colour of the water freaks me out every-time, it just gets better!

Amazing!

It was so much fun, there were a heap of grasshoppers, dragonflies and bugs that we had to dodge, but none got me in the face so I was okay with it. We also had a few really steep sand dunes to come over, but once again we survived!

Even though the water was rough out here we still got to see about half a dozen turtles feeding away on the sea grass, they were HUGE!!

After our quad bike tour we had a quick swim in the pool and then headed out to have a snorkel around coral bay, we hired some gear for $8, but you also had to leave $100 cash deposit.

The water was so much calmer today, Brenton did have to coax me a bit to head right out to the deeper water, it was tiring stuff because we kept duck diving to get right down the bottom to see all the fish and coral. Some of the colours down there were so bright!!

Scuba steve heading out.

There is a blue fish here, our camera didnt work so well that deep!

My best beach pose!

No sharks were spotted, thank god!

We spent most of the afternoon snorkelling and sitting on the beach and then decided to head to Mauds Landing for a fish, it's about 15mins from town on a dirt road.

We saw a sign saying we could drive on the beach if we had a 4wd, so we did.........

And we got bogged, pretty much straight away.

The sand was so soft, we dug around the tyres & tried again but it got deeper, thank god the tide was going out.

It took us about an hour and a half of manual labour to get us out, there was so much sand under the car!

We had blisters all over our hand but were so happy we didn't get stuck and washed away! So it was finally time to fish.

Matching rod and bathers a must!

We realised pretty quick that there was way too much seaweed, to catch anything else was impossible!

Catch of the day .

We then gave up on fishing and decided to enjoy a stroll along the beach and watch yet another awesome sunset.

It was a huge day that left us sunburnt and blistered, but we enjoyed every minute (well maybe not the our and a half that we were digging, but the rest).

Sad to be leaving but there is another cyclone on the way, surprise, surprise!

Picture perfect.
