22nd Of Feb:
It was sad to leave Coral Bay but with cyclone carlos heading our way we couldn't risk staying.
Easily could have snorkelled a few more days away.
We headed off to Carnarvon which is about 280 kms south and we had to cross about 20 different flood ways, we were lucky none of them were deep enough for the road to be closed but we did have to drive on the opposite side of a road a few times and move extremely slow so we didn't get water in the van!
We got in to Carnarvon and headed to the closest caravan park to town, Coral Coast resort, around $27 a night for a powered site.
23rd Of Feb:
We got into Carnarvon pretty early yesterday and managed to have a good look around town and stock up on much needed fruit and veg.
We are still on cyclone watch , glad we didn't stay in exmouth or coral bay as they are now on Red alert.
We had a drive around and headed to the famous 'one mile jetty', one of the oldest jetty's in Western Australia.
If only.... |
Mine was much bigger... |
The jetty was extremely rickety but we got some great shots...... went a little nuts with the camera....
We went and got some pics from the old satellite station.
A love heart in the sand! |
After recent flooding the town is still holding a fair bit of water and most of the banana plantations had been ruined.
There is only 2 our of about 6 service stations open, most under water.
We went and got some pics from the old satellite station.
Totally flooded. |
The ruined banana plantations. |
I was not a huge fan of Carnarvon, Brenton liked it, he said it reminded him a bit of Ballarat but by the water.
I'm looking forward to our next stop Denham/Monkey Mia.
