Kalbarri

We didn't originally plan on heading to Kalbarri as it was a bit of the highway but we heard some great things and decided it was time to take another detour.

Very glad we did as we soon found out why so many people say good things.

Brenton was obsessed with this football oval.

So neat!
There had been a few storms around prior to us coming to Kalbarri and the blue waters that usually surround the place had mixed with the river (which is usually pretty dry at this time of year) and the water was brown and not ideal for swimming.

Our first day was spent checking out the Kalbarri national park:

It was a stinking hot day so we made sure we got to the park super early we were told in town that it gets 10 degrees hotter in the park and it was predicted to be 35 so we didn't want to risk being there in the heat of the day.

Great views of the Murchinson river.

There is a small entry fee but it's well worth it.

Although there were no flies in Kalbarri ,there were millions at the national park, thank god for our head nets!

Natures window.

Amazing views from up the top.

A guide told us this river is normally dry at this time of year!

So much water it's hard to imagine dry!

Brenton standing near the edge, getting better with heights, bit by bit!

Walking to get a closer view of the river.

The day after we visited the national park it was off to search for another country......and search we did, a man from the caravan park told us about Hutt River and said it was about 20 minutes from town, NOT TRUE, after about an hour of driving, off a dirt track, with hardly any sign posts we found it:

Technically it's the 'oldest micro-nation in Australia' and claims to be an independent sovereign state (wikipedia), so it's not a different country but they do have their own currency, vehicle registration, taxation system and Australia post will not send mail to them!

It all started over a dispute about the amount of wheat the now 'Prince' Leonard could produce or sell in a harvest, it may be  little more technical than that but it just gets all too confusing!

A sculpture of Prince Leonard.

I even met Princess Shirley and had my passport officially stamped!

Sitting in the Princes chair.

I have always thought myself a bit of a princess!

Brenton has found a new calling....

After visiting and finding our way out of Hutt River we stopped to admire the amazing coastline of Kalbarri:

Picture perfect!
Hard to believe one day we are at the national park surrounded by bush land with a dirty river flowing through it and only half an hour down the road is this amazing coastline!

There is about 4 different look outs to see, each as awesome as the next.

I fell in love with this house!

The town of Kalbarri in the background.

We were glad to find out that we didn't have to drive out on the same road we came in on, we got to head out on the coast road, it was great!

So glad we stopped here, so much to see and do!
